It was a tweet from the New York Times: A look at the highest paid (mostly white, mostly male) CEOS of 2015.
Were the parentheses necessary? Liberals will be the first to exclaim “Race doesn’t matter!”
Anyone that suffers from this “condition” of a decreased level of melanin knows the “symptoms” of their sickness: unapologetic racism, guaranteed wealth, and of course, the “privilege”. If liberals are so dead-set on erasing stereotypes, perhaps it would do them well to erase these stereotypes about white people. And if liberals really hate old white men; I would direct them to Bill Clinton, John Kerry, and Bernie Sanders. And to those who voted for Obama simply to elect the first black president; I would direct them to Condoleezza Rice, Mia Love, and Ben Carson. Prime examples of how race has nothing to do with power. A white man was impeached from the highest office in the land because he lied under oath about what base he let his intern go to. A black woman was the Secretary of State- a good one at that- and appointed by a white republican-supposedly a “privileged” racist bigot. Liberals cannot explain any of these phenomena under the lens of “race is associated with power”
Quite honestly, I try my very best to make sense of the opposition’s view of “white privilege”. This is the best I can make of it: our races carry lineages with them. Because the history of blacks leads to things like oppression by the KKK and Jim Crow Laws, and the white history leads to families living comfortably in the suburbs, the whites today are simply assumed “privileged”. No level-headed person is denying that blacks were treated terribly during the first 70 years of this century. But I thought that the liberal movement was about progressivism? You needn’t let your past decide your future. Ben Carson didn’t. Mia Love didn’t. Condoleezza Rice didn’t.
Racism will never be eradicated no matter how hard SJW’s try. It sounds terrible and pessimistic, but racism is a thought. As long as a thought is engrained in someone’s head, you can’t take it out. SJW’s have fought and won battles to allow for equal treatment of races (and I love it!) but changing the thoughts inside someone’s head is a losing battle.
There’s a well know example of this “white privilege” in society: getting pulled over by the cops based on race. My favorite example of this is a black man saying “I feel so uncomfortable when a police car follows me simply because I’m black”. I have news for you, sweetheart, EVERYONE feels uncomfortable when the cops are behind them. It doesn’t matter your race, because the fear doesn’t come from skin color, it comes from the fact that the police are following you. And just to throw off everyone’s data, I as a white man have pulled over by the police TWICE. (Neither of which were for speeding, neither of white were for my skin color).
Again, to try to comprehend this “privilege” that I somehow inherently possess, I think of my daily life. In what situation would it apply? Clearly the “pulled over by the police” hypothesis is disproven. At Starbucks? Like, “here’s your mocha, I made it special for your delicate white lips”? At Wal-Mart? Like, “you sir can skip to the front of this ridiculously long line because your skin matches what we deem privileged”? In applying for college? Like, “you can get in because of your skin color”? OH WAIT! That’s the black privilege. Or as JFK calls it, Affirmative Action.
In 2008, a black man defeated a white man to win the most powerful political position in the United States, and arguably the world.
In 2012, a black man defeated a white man to be reelected to the most powerful political position in the United States, and arguably the world.
Where was McCain’s white privilege? Where was Mitt Romney’s white privilege?
It was all the other white privileges.
In liberal la-la land.
